Online Banking FAQ

How do I begin using Online Banking?
All AFCU accounts are given free access to this time-saving service. To log in to Online Banking, you will need a computer with an Internet connection, your account number, and Personal Identification Number (PIN).

What do I do if I have forgotten my Personal Identification Number (PIN)?
To order a PIN reminder, please contact our member service department. We'll mail your confidential PIN to the address on your account record. Members can not choose or create their own PIN.

How does encryption work?
All the data that is passed back and forth over the Internet during your Online Banking session is encrypted and becomes a string of unrecognizable numbers before leaving your computer or our site. Our site and your browser hold the keys for solving the mathematical algorithms used to encrypt the data. Each time you establish a connection, our site and your browser agree on a random key that is used for that session. This makes it possible for the two computers to pass data back and forth and make it recognizable.

What is meant by the error message, "You are about to be redirected to a site that is not secure?"
This message is based on settings you have previously established on your Internet browser. When you are navigating from a secure site to one that is not secure, your browser will prompt you of this change in security settings. If you don't wish to continue, simply close you browser session.

What is meant by the general system error I receive when logging in to Online Banking?
This error message is the result of entering your account number and/or PIN incorrectly. A temporary lock is placed on your account, during which you will be unable to use any of our electronic services. If you require assistance, please contact our member service department at 1-800-999-3961.

Why does the login page refresh instead of logging me in to my account?
Check your computer's security and cookie settings to ensure they are set appropriately. Ensure your security setting allows you to enter secure web sites. As for your cookie setting, if you are using:

  • Internet Explorer 5.5: Select the Tools menu...Internet Options...Security...Custom Level. Scroll down to the cookies section and ensure that both types of cookies are enabled.
  • Internet Explorer 6.0: Select the Tools menu...Internet Options...Privacy...Default tab. This will enable your cookies to a medium setting.
  • Netscape 7.0 or higher: Select Edit...Preferences...Privacy & Security...Cookies. Select Enable cookies based on privacy settings and change the setting to medium.

What are cookies?
Cookies can store database information, custom page settings or just about anything that would make a site individual and customizable. One analogy is that cookies are very much like a "rain-check" of sorts. When you return, you pick up where you left off. Some cookies have expiration dates. When a cookie expires, your browser will simply erase it from your hard drive. Depending on where it came from, a cookie may expire tomorrow, next week, or in several years. Cookies with an expiration date are generally known as "persistent cookies," meaning they stick around for a while. A cookie that doesn't contain an expiration date will only last as long as your browser stays open. These are called "session cookies." When you close your browser, all session cookies silently disappear.

How can I change my address online?
For immediate assistance, send the request with your new address information through the Online Banking messaging system. Be sure to include changes to your telephone number as well. You may also complete and print the change of address form and return it to a local branch location.

How do I check the status of my online loan application?
Send your inquiry through the Online Banking messaging system. We will be happy to review your status directly or contact the loan officer working your application.
