Helping Students Achieve in the Classroom ... And in Life
America First adopted Roy's Lakeview Elementary School in 1994 with the goal of helping both organizations better serve the students. AFCU staff members serve as mentors to Lakeview students, encouraging them to excel, achieve, and succeed.
Students visit America First for job shadowing, where they learn the importance of education in the workplace. Credit union representatives teach students financial awareness, balancing a checkbook, savings, and comparison shopping, among other economic topics.
This partnership has also helped the teachers of Lakeview Elementary. Their personal growth is developed through workshops conducted by AFCU's corporate trainers. Resources are also given to help with classroom needs.
America First's training resources benefit teachers, who in turn teach the students. This form of training is cost effective because related materials have already been purchased for AFCU.
The partnership with Lakeview Elementary has given us the opportunity to embrace our motto of service, "People Helping People."
