How you're going to pay for higher education is not a simple question. America First Credit Union, however, has a simple answer. We can help you finance learning with student loans guaranteed by the federal government.

We disburse subsidized and unsubsidized Stafford Loans to students, PLUS Loans to parents, and Graduate PLUS Loans to students who meet the application criteria.

  • Stafford Loans: In a subsidized Stafford loan, the government pays interest while you are in school, during grace periods, and in case of any other deferment. Unsubsidized loans carry interest from the time it is disbursed until it is paid in full. You or your parents will start paying on all Stafford loans six months after graduating from or leaving school. There are also limitations on what you can borrow. Limits range from $3,500 for a first-year undergraduate, $4,500 for second and third-year, and $12,000 for a graduate or professional student.
  • Plus Loans: These loans work well for parents with good credit who have students enrolled in at least half a full course load. Parents can finance the full cost of your education, minus the amount funded by grants or other aid. Repayment begins 30 to 60 days after disbursement.
  • Graduate Plus Loans: Extends eligibility for PLUS Loans to graduate and professional students. Eligibility criteria remain, including credit checks and no in-school status. However, students would be eligible for an in-school deferrment.

Student loan interest rates are low and carry tax benefits, but the financial burden is significant. Always research all your funding options.

America First is committed to helping you find the financing you need to fulfill your educational aspirations. Email us if you have additional questions about our student loan programs.
