Make paying for your higher education easy with a Student Loan from America First Credit Union. America First Student Loans are guaranteed by the federal government and you receive the full amount of your loan upon approval. America First offers the following types of Student Loans:

How to Apply

Once you're enrolled in a federally accredited school, you can apply. Here's how:

  • Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. You'll see a reply in two to four weeks.
  • Be sure to request America First Credit Union as your lender. List our Federal ID number, 822373.
  • Ask about the qualifications and application deadlines. Complete any additional applications your school's financial aid department may also require.
  • After submitting an application, you'll receive a Student Aid Report (SAR). Double-check the details, and let your school's financial aid office know if there is any incorrect information.
  • If approved, your loan check will be received by your school. You may also review the status of your student loan, including balance information online at www.uheaa.org.
  • Always remember that a student loan is a serious financial commitment that has to be repaid. Never borrow more than you can handle.

For student loan interest rates, call Utah Higher Education Assistance (UHEAA) at 1-877-336-7378.

For questions about local college and university student loan requirements, please contact the financial aid office at the school you plan to attend. For other questions, please call our student loan representatives at (801) 827-8148, or toll free 1-800-999-3961 ext. 8148, or Utah Higher Education Assistance (UHEAA) at 1-877-336-7378.

Stafford Loans

In a subsidized Stafford loan, the government pays interest while you are in school, during grace periods, and in case of any other deferment. Unsubsidized loans carry interest from the time it is disbursed until it is paid in full. You will start paying on all Stafford loans six months after graduating from or leaving school.

Stafford Loan Credit Limits:

  • First-year undergraduate - $3,500 to $5,500
  • Second-year undergraduate - $4,500 to $6,500
  • Third and fourth-year undergraduate - $5,500 to $7,500

For graduate or professional student credit limits, contact Utah Higher Education Assistance (UHEAA) at 1-877-336-7378.

Plus Loans

These loans work well for parents with good credit who have students enrolled in at least half a full course load. Parents can finance the full cost of your education, minus the amount funded by grants or other aid. Repayment begins 30 to 60 days after disbursement.

Graduate Plus Loans

Extends eligibility for PLUS Loans to graduate and professional students. Eligibility criteria remain, including credit checks and no in-school status. However, students would be eligible for an in-school deferment.

We also offer a large selection of college planning calculators to assist you in achieving your higher education goals.

Student loan interest rates are low and carry tax benefits, but the financial burden is significant. Always research all your funding options.

America First is committed to helping you find the financing you need to fulfill your educational aspirations. Feel free to email (support@americafirst.com) us if you have additional questions about our student loan programs.
