Summer has always felt like the season of freedom—the days are longer and sunnier; the kids are out of school; the time for long-awaited vacations finally arrives; and communities across the country gather to celebrate Independence Day and the freedoms that are the bedrock of our nation.
During this time of year, I’m frequently reminded of what a privilege is it to live in this country, and of the responsibility each of us has to not take the liberty we enjoy for granted. I’m also reminded of and think a lot about the people who got us here, and about those who carry us forward.
From the very beginning, our credit union has had a special connection to the members of the Armed Forces and the civilians who support them. Before we were America First Credit Union, we were Federal Employees Credit Union, and before that, Fort Douglas Civilian Employees Credit Union. In 1939, our first business address was a borrowed room at Fort Douglas, in a building that is now located on the campus of the University of Utah. Throughout the 85 years since, we’ve been honored to serve those who serve our country, and to be a part of that history in this region.
